Metaphor/Artifact: Create a visual metaphor or prepare an artifact that is relevant or reflect your baseline. Write a short narrative (e.g., story, poem) to describe your metaphor/artifact. Consider this metaphor/artifact is a building block or a foundation for your baseline work.

“Thank you for sharing this thoughtful piece with you. Yes, you are on the right track. I like how you used the stone and ripples as a metaphor to describe your commitment as a teacher. I found the guiding questions at the end constructive and insightful. If we can continue to use this metaphor to think deeper, I encourage you to look at the patterns of your ripples (learning) – are they parallel or intersected? And would it be different in terms of your practice? Please see the attached file for the visual difference between Reflection and diffraction. There’s a set of theories on this, yet I just want you to ponder “what kinds of weave” (impact or the relationships of learning) that you are creating. There are no right answers here, and my aim was to provoke you to think deeper on your practice and its impact. Especially when you said, “As an educator everything I do creates ripples and what I do and how I do it matters,” (very powerful, btw), if it matters, how is it represented or manifested? ~ Dr Ching-Chiu Lin, Simon Fraser University Professor, October 31, 2022.
Response
“Thanks for the feedback! I will definitely consider the differences between reflection and diffraction and examine the weaves that are created along this journey.” ~ Crystal Smith, Graduate Student, Simon Fraser University, Nov 1, 2022.

“Crystal You worked so hard on your Baseline and this will definitely benefit you when you come to your final Comprehensive Portfolio. You did an excellent job. Your work is a great 'model' to show others doing their Baseline. Would you give me permission to use your presentation and write-up as an example for future cohorts?” ~ Ann Pimentel, Simon Fraser University Faculty Associate, Nov 16, 2022
Response
